Johnson leads way for boys golf team

Ian Johnson made his varsity debut with three sub-100 rounds to lead the Park Rapids boys golf team in its season debuts.

Johnson carded a 91 as the Panthers shot a 392 at the Detroit Lakes Invitational at Wildflower last Monday.

At the Pequot Lakes Invitational, Johnson shot a 94 at The Pines on Friday and followed with a 95 at The Preserve on Saturday as the Panthers carded a 797 in the two-day event.

Panthers open with a 392

In addition to Johnson's 91, the Panthers used Gairett Johnson's 99 and a pair of 101s by Bailey Mueller and Sterling Lindahl to finish 16th at the Detroit Lakes Invitational.

Nevis finished 12th in that 16-team meet with a 355. Leading the Tigers were Hunter Schroeder with an 82, Kyle Magnuson with an 88, Adam Poole with a 91 and Mitch Rehkamp with a 94.

Conner Hedstrom shot a 72 and Karter Smith followed with a 73 to lead Detroit Lakes to the team title with a 300.

Panthers card 797 at PL

The Panthers followed a 396 at The Pines with a 401 at The Preserve to finish 22nd at the Pequot Lakes Invitational.

Following Ian Johnson's 94 at The Pines were Lindahl with a 99, Nate Carlson with a 101 and Ed Carlson with a 102.

Nevis shot a 371 for 18th place while United North Central was 22nd with a 400. Leading Nevis were Schroeder (84), Magnuson (94), Aaron Halik (95), and Rehkamp and Matt Halik (98s). Leading UNC were Alex Schoon (98), Frank Moren (99), Lane Hillukka (101) and Arik Hillukka (102).

Bemidji's Joe Welle led the field with a 74 while Hermantown shot a 309 to lead the way after the first day.

At The Preserve, Ian Johnson's 95, Tony Schmid's 99, Mueller's 101 and Ed Carlson's 106 led to a 401 team score.

Nevis carded a 383 to finish 19th overall with a 754.

Brainerd's Sean Halverson carded an even-par 72 to win medalist honors. Halverson was the overall medalist with a two-day score of 148. Hermantown shot a 309 Saturday to win the overall title with a 618.

Friday's round at The Pines also served as the first Mid-Minnesota Conference meet.

Staples-Motley carded a 409 and earned 55 points to lead the way. Nevis shot a 469 and received 30.5 points, United North Central carded a 504 for 21 points while Park Rapids shot a 499 for 19 points.

Lindahl shot a 99 for fourth place at the No. 6 player position while Ian Johnson shot a 94 to finish fifth at the No. 1 player spot and Schmid shot a 103 to finish fourth at the No. 5 player position for the Panthers.

Aaron Halik led the way for Nevis at the No. 5 player position with a 95 while Schroeder's 84 led to a third-place finish at the No. 1 spot and Magnuson's 94 led to a third-place finish at the No. 2 player position. Matt Halik took fourth at the No. 4 spot with a 98.

For UNC, Schoon's 98 was good for third place at the No. 6 spot while Arik Hillukka's 102 was good for fourth place at the No. 5 spot.

Blueberry Pines will host the next Mid-Minnesota Conference meet Friday.
