John Robert Holtey, 77, of Nevis, died unexpectedly Sunday, Aug. 4, 2013 at his home.
John was born Sept. 7, 1935 in St. Paul the son of Thorvold and Mildred (Martinson) Holtey. He grew up in Appleton, graduating from high school there in 1953.
In 1957, he was a graduate of St. Olaf College and later William Mitchel Law School.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959 in Colorado Springs, Colo.
John and Marion Christine Miklethun were married in 1960 in Minneapolis. He was employed by banks in Austin, Minneapolis, and 1st National Bank of Fargo, N.D. He also headed the trust department in Omaha, Neb. They moved to Boca Raton, Fla. where he worked for the Continental Illinois Bank. He retired to Boulder Lake near Nevis in 1997.
John was a board member of Bank West in Buffalo; He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Park Rapids, the Park Rapids Rotary Club, and the Beagle Books book club.
He enjoyed volunteering at the Hubbard County Food Shelf.
John will be remembered for his endearing and friendly personality.
John is survived by his wife, Marion of Nevis; their children, Karin (Ronald) Spear; Thomas (Mary Jo) Holtey; Daniel (Anne Tapteland) Holtey; seven grandchildren, Bryan, Devin, Erik Spear, David, Sarah Holtey, Bjorn, Sonja Holtey.
Funeral service: 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 10 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Park Rapids.
Visitation: one hour prior to the service at the church.
Interment: 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 12, at the Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis.
