Jewel Seeger

Jewel M. Seeger, 78, of the Mahnomen area, died Friday, November 7, 2008.

Jewel Mae Becker was born to Merlin and Mildred (Coyle) Becker on Dec. 23, 1929, and raised by her parents in the Mahnomen area. She graduated from Mahnomen High School in May 1949.

On Dec. 30, 1949, Jewel married Duane Lowell Seeger, son of William and Alice Seeger of Twin Valley. They began living on Duane's family farm, moving to their own farm southwest of Mahnomen in November 1955. Jewel was active with Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 4-H leadership, Pembina Homemakers Club and the Parent Teachers Association, while raising their 10 children.

Jewel was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1976, living at home with assistance until 1998, when she moved to St. Mary's Nursing Center and later, Emmanuel Nursing Home, both in Detroit Lakes. She had been living at Ezekiel Care Home, Moorhead since 2006.

Jewel is survived by her husband, Duane Seeger of Mahnomen; their children, Debra (Chuck) Steinbach of Appleton, Wis., Paula Seeger (Steve) Krogh of Issaquah, Wash., Naomi Evans of Wahpeton, N.D., Darrel (Sandi) Seeger of Pelican Rapids, Nathan (Joanne) Seeger of Dent, Neal (Liz) Seeger of Detroit Lakes, Scott Seeger of Moorhead, John Seeger of Mahnomen and Brenda (Dan) Crane of Crookston; 23 grandchildren, two great grandchildren; her mother, Mildred Becker of White Bear Lake; siblings, Joanne Gahler of White Bear Lake, Joyce Lundquist of Surprise, Ariz., and Mark Becker of San Diego, Calif.

Jewel is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Loren and Lena Coyle; paternal grandparents, William and Ella Becker; father, Merlin Becker; infant brothers, Wallace, Loren and William; her children, Anita Marie and Kevin Joel; and son-in-law, Gene Evans.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Mahnomen. It will resume at noon on Friday, continuing until the start of services.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Twin Valley, with interment following at Riverside Memorial Cemetery, Mahnomen.
