Janice Faye Bloomfield Dougherty, 74, was called to the Lord Tuesday, July 9, 2013 while surrounded by family in her Denton, Texas home. She courageously fought lung cancer for a year.

Jan was born Jan. 6, 1939 in Rugles, Ky. to Kenneth Bloomfield and Garnet Green Bloomfield. At a young age, her parents moved their family to Columbus, Ohio, where she graduated from Hilliard High School in 1956.

On Sept. 15, 1956, she was united in marriage to Larry Lee Dougherty in Columbus, Ohio. Jan began her professional life as a private secretary and continued her career through the years as an office manager and provided sales support.

Early in their marriage, Jan and Larry moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where they raised their family. They later moved to Eden Prairie and 10 years later (1998) they retired to their lake home in Park Rapids where they continued to spend summers. They also enjoyed 10 years of wintering in Naples, Fla.

Jan's greatest achievement in life was sharing her love with her family and all who knew her. She loved to golf, was an avid fisherman and enjoyed boating and anything out of doors. She left an impression on all who knew her with her sense of humor and her ability to tell jokes.

Jan is survived by her devoted husband of nearly 57 years, Larry Lee Dougherty; two children, Holly (Michael) Hunt of Highland Village, Texas and Darin (Christy) Dougherty of Columbia, S.C.; four grandchildren, Elly, Darcy, Jake and Kiely; brother, Wayne (Jeanne) Bloomfield of London, Ohio; many beloved nieces and nephews; and Bandit, their faithful dog.

Memorial services in Denton, Texas and Park Rapids are pending. An opportunity for memorial contributions will be forthcoming.
