JAN C. SIMON
Jan C. Simon, 62, of Park Rapids, died Friday, May 16, 2014 at her home.
Jan C. Dufty was born Nov. 22, 1951 in Austin, Minn. the daughter of Jay G. Dufty, Jr. and Florence J. (Mobraten) Dufty. She graduated from Fergus Falls High School in 1970, and in 1974 she graduated from the University of Dubuque, Iowa with a degree in special education.
She was united in marriage to Michael G. Simon Aug. 19, 1972 in Willmar. After their marriage they lived in Tampa Bay, Fla., Dubuque, Iowa, Onalaska, Wis., Eagan, and Park Rapids, since 1999.
She was employed for many years by the West St. Paul School District and the Northwoods Bank of Park Rapids.
She enjoyed reading, playing games with her grandkids, gardening, being outside, fishing and she loved to travel.
She was a member of the Calvary Lutheran Church in Park Rapids.
Jan had an amazing, caring soul. Her compassionate spirit always found the good in people. Her favorite job was being grandma. She adored her grandchildren and she bragged about all of their endeavors and accomplishments.
Jan is survived by her husband of 43 years, Michael Simon of Park Rapids; daughters, Jamie (John) Linkowitz of Park Rapids, Denise Simon (Paul Olson) of Detroit Lakes; son, T.J. (Esther) Simon of Park Rapids; granddaughter, Olivia Miller of Park Rapids; grandsons, Darien and Hunter Simon of Park Rapids; mother, Florence Dufty of Willmar; brothers-in-law Jerry Grinde of Hutchinson, and Steve Marx of Richfield; brothers and sisters-in-law, Doug (Karen) Dufty of Park Rapids, Mark (Marcia) Dufty of Fergus Falls; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Deb (Gary) Hanneman of Sabin, Barb (Ken) Pauly of Willmar; father-in-law, Chuck Simon of Holmen, Wis.; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law Steve (Rita) Simon of Holmen, Wis.; her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Kim (Chris) Butler of Onalaska, Wis.; Her exchange children, Claire (Mark) Lovesey of England; 28 nieces and nephews; and 19 great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Gene Dufty; sisters, Linda Grinde and Gail Marx; nephews, Tony Marx and Tyler Rivas; niece, KiAnn Rivas; mother- in-law, Mary Simon; and numerous aunts and uncles; and her grandparents.
Memorial service: 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 20 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Park Rapids. Pastor Sara Jensen will be officiant.
Visitation: was held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, May 19, 2014 at Cease Family Funeral Home in Park Rapids, also one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
A luncheon will be hosted by Calvary Lutheran Church.
Inurnment: will be held at a later date at the Bethel Lutheran Cemetery rural Park Rapids.
