James "Jim" Tisland

James "Jim" L. Tisland, 64, of Hines, died Sunday, April 21, 2013 at the VA Medical Center in Minne-apolis.

He was born Dec. 25, 1948 in Madison, S.D. to Leslie and Virginia (Gal-lagher) Tisland. Jim moved from South Dakota to Tenstrike in 1949. From 1966 to 2007, the family lived in Roseville, and then moved to Hines. He graduated from Blackduck High School in 1966.

From 1966 to 1969, he was the service manager for Arrow Pontiac in St. Paul.

He joined the U.S. Army on March 26, 1969 during the Vietnam War. He re-ceived the Bronze Star with Valor, the Army commendation for Meritorious Service, the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, Jump Wings and the Combat Infantry Badge. He was honorably discharged as a Sgt., E5 on Feb. 22, 1971.

He was sales manager from 1971-1980 at Allied Farm Equipment in St. Paul. Beginning in 1980, he was the commercial turf sales manager for Minnesota Toro, Inc. in Brooklyn Center and retired from there in 2007.

He married Tammy Reppert at their home in Hines July 22, 2008.

Jim loved his close friends dearly. He had a special way of understanding young people and they would naturally gravitate to him. He loved hunting and fishing and in recent years, spent long hours devoting his love and labor to building his home with Tammy. Their home is a place of comfort and joy to all who visit as his creative touches are everywhere. He especially enjoyed working at auctions with his wife, Tammy.

He was a past com-mander of the American Legion in both Roseville and Blackduck; a member of the VFW of Northome, Disabled American Veter-ans of Bemidji and the Sons of the American Legion.

Jim will be lovingly re-membered by his wife, Tammy, of Hines; daughter, Kristina Tisland of New Brighton; stepson, Jeremiah (Katie) Erickson of Helena, Mont.; granddaughter, Camron Erickson; stepdaughter, Sarah Erickson of Oak Harbor, Wash.; sisters, Jean (Wayne) Dyrhaug of St. Paul, Connie (Charles) Poli of Mexico, Judy (Larry) Battey and Cheri (Donald) Moos, both of Park Rapids; brothers, Loren (Donita) Tisland of Oklahoma and Steven Tisland of Georgia; sister-in-law, Julie Tisland of Bemidji; nieces and nephews, Eric (Ruth-Ann) Tisland of Ft. Carson, Colo., Casey Tisland, Las Vegas, Nev., Kyle Tisland of Oman, Robyn Tisland of Kentucky, Larry Battey, Jr. of Kansas and Teri Fix of Kansas and many other nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Les and Virginia Tisland; two brothers, Robert and Ken Tisland; and two sisters, Bonnie Ruiz and Karen Tisland.

Funeral service: 11 a.m. Friday, April 26 at the Blackduck Evangelical Free Church in Blackduck, with the Rev. Dwight Warden, officiating.

Casketbearers: Loren Lossing, Mike Moe, Jeremiah Erickson, Eric Tisland, Kyle Tisland and Hunter Lossing.

Honorary casketbearers: Loren "Buz" Tisland, Sarah Erickson, Casey Tisland and Larry Battey Jr.

Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Thursday, April 25 with a 7 p.m. prayer service at the Cease Funeral Home in Blackduck and an hour before the funeral at the church.

Full military honors will be provided by the Blackduck American Legion Post 372 and the Minnesota Patriot Guard.

Burial: in the spring in Lakeview Cemetery in Blackduck.
