James "Jim" Strendin, 60, of Nevis, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014 in Two Inlets.

James Einor Strendin was born Sept. 8, 1953 to Einor and Ann (Teconchuk) Strendin in Park Rapids. He grew up and graduated from Park Rapids High School in 1971.

Over the years he has worked in the oil fields of North Dakota and in Bakersfield, Calif. where he worked 13 years for the Frito Lay Company and received the One Million miles with no accident award.

He owned and operated Whispering Pines Resort and Campgrounds on West Crooked Lake near Nevis, from 1998 to the present day. He also played a huge part in running Operation Minnesota Nice.

Jim was an avid Pittsburgh Steeler fan. He was a man of good character who loved to tell a good story and laughed with anyone. His fish guide experience on West Crooked Lake was envied by many. He loved being a brother, father, partner and grandfather.

Jim is survived by his beloved partner, Denise Jorgensen of Ramsey; son, Timothy Strendin of Fargo, N.D.; daughter, Melissa (Eric) Swenson of Moorhead; sisters, JoAnn Strendin of Sun City, Ariz., Kathy Strendin of Park Rapids; brother, John Strendin of Park Rapids; grandchildren, Jacob Swenson, Haley Swenson, Riley Strendin and Lindsey Strendin; Denise's children, Jessica (Ryan) Brouillette and Stephen (Heather) Novak.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, step dad, Frank Trudell; grandparents; three stepsisters; uncles, Mike, Math and Fred and his old dog, Bill.

Memorial service: 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26 at Cease Family Funeral Home Chapel in Park Rapids. Deacon John Zinniel is officiating.

Visitation: will be one hour prior to the service.
