Join us for an evening out-side at Itasca Saturday, Jan. 19, for our annual Lantern Lit Hike/Snowshoe /Ski. The route will be following the South Entrance Road.
Ski and Snowshoe events taking place at the park will be lantern lit hike events if there is not enough snow. The form of recreation will depend on snow depth that evening. If the program is a hike, participants need to wear footwear with slip-resistant soles and good treads. This popular family-friendly event provides an opportunity to get out on a trail illuminated by the warm glow of kerosene lanterns. Park visitors can then warm up around a cozy fire at the trail head and roast marshmallows or enjoy hot chocolate, cider and cookies in the visitor center.
The lantern-lit trail is relatively flat and easy, so that children and beginners can feel comfortable participating. The route follows the South Entrance Road and is illuminated for 1.5 miles or 3 miles round-trip.Participants can access the route from the parking lot at the Jacob V. Brower Visitor Center. The route will be illumi-nated from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
