Irene Pearl Kleen, 81, of Akeley, died Thursday, April 16, 2009 at Kay's Pine Chalet in Akeley.
She was born September 18, 1927 in Balsam Lake, Wis. to Fred and Edith (Holcomb) Dase. Her family moved to Amboy, where she grew up, attended school, and graduated from Amboy High School. Following high school she lived and worked in Mankato for several years.
In May of 1960 she married Harold Wilbur Kleen, and in 1964 they moved to Cass Lake, where they owned and operated the Oakdale Grove Resort until 1989. She was widowed in 1983. In 1989 she moved in to Cass Lake and worked as a C-Sep for the U.S. Forest Service until her retirement. She then moved to Park Rapids to be closer to family, and in September of 2008 to Kay's Pine Chalet in Akeley.
She is survived by a daughter, Susan (Matthew) Schmidt; two sons: Howard and Dale (Diane); seven grandchildren; two brothers: Fred (Beverly) Dase and Frank (Helen) Dase; and a sister, Helen (Charles) Nystrom.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
Funeral service: 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 21 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cass Lake with Rev. Allan Wierschke officiating.
Visitation: Noon until the time of service.
Interment: Pine Grove Cemetery, Cass Lake.
