Hydrant flushing starts in Park Rapids May 19
The city of Park Rapids utility department will be flushing fire hydrants starting Monday, May 19. It could take up to two weeks to complete flushing all the city’s hydrants.
Hydrant flushing is done each year to clean out pipe accumulation that has built up over the year.
During the flushing, people might experience discolored water, said Public Works Director Scott Burlingame. The discolored water is due to pipes being rusty and having buildup.
People should look at their water before washing clothes, for example, because fabrics could get stained.
The flushing will start Monday and hopefully be completed within two weeks. It is a big job, with almost 500 hydrants in town.
