Hunter dies in Cass County incident
A 51-year-old Sartell man died after accidentally shooting himself after falling from his deer stand this weekend.
The Cass County Sheriff's Office received a report of a missing hunter early Saturday in the Outing area of Beulah Township.
The man was found near his deer stand about 10 a.m. by a search team, comprised of the Sheriff's Office, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources conservation officers and volunteers.
"It appeared the victim had fallen from his deer stand, causing an accidental dis-charge of his firearm resulting in a fatal gunshot wound," Cass County Sheriff Tom Burch said in a news release issued today.
The Sheriff's Office is withholding identification of the man until relatives are notified.
The incident remains under investigation pending autopsy results from the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office in St. Paul.
