Hubbard County's K-9 officer has been terminated six weeks after being placed on paid administrative leave.

Jeremiah Johnson, 34, has been with the Sheriff's Department since 2005. He was informed of his termination last week, County Coordinator Deb Thompson confirmed.

Sheriff Cory Aukes referred all calls to Thompson.

"He was terminated as of April 1," Thompson said.

Park Rapids Police Chief Terry Eilers said his department took temporary custody of Johnson's canine partner, Vulcan, over the weekend, until a suitable environment can be found for the dog.
