Handmade rugs are one of the mainstays of the Developmental Achievement Center in Park Rapids, besides message buttons and woodworking. Clients make about 10 a week, sold through the Tin Ceiling, Bearly Used and the Salvage Depot. Or you can custom order a special size.
The strips are wound into a ball, then onto the spindles Edna is feeding through the loom. Lora Dudley carefully peels the frayed edges off the fabric strips before they're wound.
They are priced by the inch, depending on the materials used, which are all recycled, and run between 50 and 70 cents per inch.
