Home runs by Coborn, Dirks spark Panthers' comeback victory
Home runs by Tucker Coborn and Paul Dirks helped rally the Park Rapids baseball team to a 9-8 win over Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton Thursday at Glyndon.
D-G-F used two errors to score three times in the first inning and used four hits and an error to score three more runs in the fourth to build a 6-0 lead.
One-out singles by Jack Mercado, Levi Erickson and Dirks loaded the bases in the fifth. Sam Coborn followed with a two-run double before Tucker Coborn blasted a three-run homer to close the deficit to 6-5.
Three singles helped the Rebels claim an 8-5 lead in the bottom of the fifth before Park Rapids rallied.
Erickson singled with one out in the sixth and scored on Dirks' homer to make it 8-7.
In the seventh, a single by Kevin McMorrow and an RBI double by Dan Ricke tied the game. Ricke scored the winning run on Dan Pike's RBI double.
Tucker Coborn went the distance, allowing 13 hits but only four earned runs. Coborn struck out seven in improving to 2-0 on the season.
The Panthers, who were held to only two hits through the first four innings, belted out 13 hits with Dirks, Sam Coborn, McMorrow, Mercado and Erickson having two hits apiece. The win lifted Park Rapids' record to 6-8 while the Rebels fell to 9-5.
