Historical museum seeking business, resort items
Park Rapids Minnesota PO Box 111 56470

Hubbard County holds a rich history of businesses catering to needs and wishes of clientele - from milking machines to ladies' oxfords - and resorts welcoming guests at the train station - a horse and buggy ready to deliver the guests to the lake.

The Hubbard County Historical Society now hopes to capture a bit of that entrepreneurial déja vu.

A room on the northeast side of the lower level - replete with the original rock foundation wall - has been delegated the Business and Resort Room. Vintage and current items and photographs are being sought.

Fuller's Golden Books - with each season's fishing news - are among displays as are items from Bishop's Department Store and Wambolts Camp.

Old fishing lures, signs, photos on the lakes or of businesses, postcards, news clippings and other memorabilia are welcome.

Plans call for re-creating a darkhouse in what was once an old vault.

And the old films stored in the room - "Bride of Frankenstein," "High Noon," "Casablanca" and "Body Snatchers" - may once again have an audience.

For more information on the project, contact Connie Henderson at 732-5237.
