Highway 34 update
The detour on Highway 34 east of Park Rapids is now in place.
At Thursday's contractor's meeting, the delay in rerouting traffic from Monday morning until Wednesday afternoon was due to a "setback" and rain.
East and westbound traffic is being routed along Co. Rd. 107. Drivers using CSAH 4 are directed to 169th Ave-nue. The detour is likely to be on until mid-October.
The posted speed limit on Co. Rd. 107 is 45 mph.
Concrete work along the south side of Highway 34 in town was scheduled to be finished Friday with utility work starting Tuesday at the corner of Helten Avenue and Highway 34. The work will proceed from west to east.
Asphalt removal on the section of Highway 34 east where the detour is in place will start at Co. Rd. 107 and extend approximately 1,000 feet east of CSAH 4.
Several men from St. Johns Lutheran Church at-tended Thursday's meeting again, still upset about the approach to the church be-ing moved.
Larry Randall, project manager with the Minne-sota Department of Trans-portation, explained again there isn't room for the short frontage road from Helten Avenue so the design calls for a joint entrance.
Randall said the pastor should be receiving a letter from the design engineer.
This week, crews will be-gin removing concrete and bituminous from the north half of Highway 34 in town and utility work will begin.
Weekly construction meetings are at 1 p.m. Thursdays at the Park Rap-ids Area Library, located at 210 West 1st St.
