Heat, severe weather advisories issued for Hubbard County, region

Hubbard County is on the edge of a heat advisory issued Monday morning by the National Weather Service in Grand Forks for Monday afternoon into evening.

The weather service has also issued a hazardous weather outlook from 1 to 7 p.m. today for portions of eastern North Dakota and west-central and northwest Minnesota.

Warm temperatures and humid conditions will create heat indexes of more than 100 degrees this afternoon and evening. The weather service says relief should come tonight as thunderstorms develop.

Authorities have received several calls about pets and cattle being left without proper hydration for the conditions.

Here is the extended forecast for the region:

This Afternoon: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 3pm. Mostly sunny and hot, with a high near 92. Heat index values as high as 99. South wind be-tween 10 and 14 mph, with gusts as high as 18 mph. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Tonight: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly between 7pm and 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 70. South wind at 8 mph becoming north-east. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 87. North northwest wind around 8 mph.

Tuesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 67. North northwest wind between 3 and 6 mph.

Independence Day: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly sunny and hot, with a high near 92. South southeast wind between 6 and 11 mph. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
