Heat challenged runners in Firecracker Footrace
Almost 650 runners battled Wednesday morning's hot and humid conditions to compete in the 34th annual 10K and 5K Firecracker Footrace.
Drew Peterson won the men's 10K race with a time of 38:06.95 while Allie Parks won the women's 10K title with a time of 42:53.41.
In the 5K race, Matthew Peterson won the men's title in 16:12.84 while Clare Kazmierczak won the women's title in 19:21:02.
A total of 64 men and 38 women completed the 10K course, which started and ended at Park Rapids' Heartland Park.
Age division winners in the men's 10K race were Isaac Overmyer in 38:48.28 (18-under division), Peterson (19-29 division), David Lewis in 38:52.29 (30-39 division), Jay Jorgenson in 45:57.32 (40-49 division), Mick Peterson in 45:14.58 (50-59 division) and Neil King in 50:10.51 (60-over division).
In the women's 10K race, the age division winners were Shelby Pierce in 48:01.60 (18-under division), Parks (19-29 division), Kristi Speer in 47:34.77 (30-39 division) and Jennifer Voigt in 50:36.67 (40-49 division).
There were 235 men and 301 women who finished the 5K race.
Age division winners for the men were Matthew Lundstrom in 18:14.37 (18-under division), Samuel Read in 17:15.14 (19-29 division), Peterson (30-39 division), Mark Lundstrom in 20:51.08 (40-49 division), Glen Goebel in 19:53.64 (50-59 division) and Greg Larson in 22:07.24 (60-over division).
In the women's 5K race, age division winners were Marie West in 21:40.90 (18-under division), Sheila Johnson in 21:19.81 (19-29 division), Kazmierczak (30-39 division), Peggy Eischens-Affeldt in 20:11.43 (40-49 division), Regina Theisen in 28:17.05 (50-59 division) and Arlene Keski in 33:44.74 (60-over division).
