Six hundred forty-six athletes, some as young as grade-schoolers, braved chilly, windy conditions Saturday as the 32nd annual Headwaters 100 bike ride swept through the region.

With temperatures hovering at the freezing mark, waves of bicyclists took off from Century School in Park Rapids Saturday morning, noses red and cheeks flushed from the brisk air.

The Itascatur Ski, Bike and Run Club, which sponsors the event, pronounced it a success.
