Head-on crash near Blackduck results in two minor injuries
Two people escaped with no serious injuries after their vehicles collided head-on Saturday near Blackduck, Minn.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Samme Nehl, 41, Squaw Lake, Minn., was driving wildly in a 1998 Cadillac, swerving over the lines, at 3:52 p.m. Saturday on U.S. Highway 71 about two miles south of Blackduck.
Witnesses told the Patrol that the southbound Nehl crossed over into the northbound lane several times and finally collided with a 1999 Buick Park Avenue driven by Leah Swalboski, 30, Northome, Minn., who tried unsuccessfully to avoid Nehl's car. But Nehl's Cadillac Catera hit Swalboski's car on the front driver's side.
Air bags were deployed in both vehicles. Both Nehl and Swalboski were treated at a Bemidji hospital and released Saturday.
No information was available Sunday on possible charges facing Nehl. The Beltrami County Sheriff's Office is helping the Patrol in the case.
