Firefighters in three counties were called out to battle separate grass fires amid stiff winds and bone-dry conditions.

Sebeka's department was called out shortly after 1 p.m. to a large grass fire in Wadena County. Carsonville was called to the Ponsford area around 2 to quell a blaze in Becker County.

Park Rapids raced to Hubbard an hour later to keep a grass fire under control south of the city.

"We have grass fires everywhere and what day in December is this?" a firefighter asked rhetorically.

Some moisture is in the forecast for tonight, but it may not make a difference in the escalating dry conditions.
