Grandstand comes down; Hubbard County fair will go on

The tornado-damaged grandstand at the Hubbard County fairgrounds is coming down, but the show will go on - the whole show.

Fair board members determined the grandstand was structurally unsound after tornado force winds peeled the ceiling and boards from the supporting walls off the structure. With only a couple weeks to go before the annual fair, they sprang into action.

Temporary bleachers will be rented and set up for the grandstand shows, giving audiences an eagle eye view of the demolition derby destruction and other events.

No other damage occurred on the grounds, so the Midway, the 4-H exhibits, the talent show and Christian rock concert are all a go.

The 116th annual Shell Prairie Agricultural Association's fair begins July 6 and runs five days.

Demolition will begin Friday afternoon and be completed Saturday.
