Grand Forks woman fights off attempted robber
A woman fought off a masked man who tried to rob her just outside her house on the west side of Grand Forks on Thursday evening, police said.
The victim told police that as she drove home on the 4800 block of Fifth Avenue North at about 6:30 p.m., she noticed a man standing by her fence. She drove into the garage and began unloading groceries when the man walked in and asked for money. She told him no and walked to the door into her house. As she opened the door, the man grabbed her around the waist and she fought free, shut the door and called 911.
The man fled from the area, which is on the west side of Interstate 29, north of University Avenue. Police said no other incidents have been reported Thursday in the neighborhood, and no other similar crimes have been reported.
The man was described as 5 feet, 10 inches tall, medium built, with his face covered except for his eyes with a mask or scarf, wearing a red hooded sweatshirt and dark jeans. She did not see any weapon.
