At 2:43 a.m., 22-year-old Kody Frederick Larter was driving a 1992 Saturn sedan northbound on Columbia Road when a Grand Forks Sheriff's Department deputy tried to stop the vehicle.

Larter fled the deputy and crashed head-on into a stoplight pole on the northeast corner of Columbia Road and 32nd Avenue South, causing severe damage to the car's front end. He was not wearing a seatbelt and was injured, and was taken by ambulance to Altru Hospital.

A nursing supervisor said she couldn't release any information on his condition this morning.

Larter was charged with fleeing a peace officer, driving under the influence of alcohol and driving with a suspended license, a Class B misdemeanor. The crash is still under investigation.
