Governor's Fishing Opener hosts invited to showcase area's lakes
Volunteers for the 2013 Governor's Fishing Opener in Park Rapids are being recruited, on land and on sea.
Saturday morning, May 11, a battalion of media members and dignitaries will set sail on area lakes to experience the opener.
Aquatic ambassadors, those with boats who are familiar with Park Rapids area lakes, are being sought to take guests out on the Fish Hook Chain.
Fishing hosts need not be avid anglers, simply someone willing to host members of the media, showcase area lakes and (optional) regale them with a bit of north woods trivia.
Some passengers may simply want to cruise the lakes for photo opportunities.
Hosts don't receive monetary compensation but they will get some great commemorative gifts, a handful of outstanding meals at no charge and an experience that will last a lifetime, fishing host chair Jason Durham promises.
Fishing hosts don't need the fanciest boat available, but do need to outfit a couple anglers with fishing rods, tackle and life-jackets, Durham said.
The boat must be licensed and insured. A fishing license is also required.
