Girl Scouts celebrate 100th anniversary
The Red Bridge and Heartland Park served as backdrop for a special Girl Scout "bridging ceremony" last Friday. Local troops crossed the bridge and lit candles to celebrate a century of Scouting. Girl Scout Community Service Coordinator Monica Clark and Cadettes Kellsey Clark, Susannah Kern, Katy Spears and Kirsten Jones led the procession. At right, the founder of Girl Scouts, Juliette Gordon Low (portrayed by actress Mary Harrison) regaled the crowd with stories of her youth and her inspiration for the world's largest girl-led, nonprofit organization. Refreshments - Girl Scout cookies, of course - followed.
