Girl Scout registration Sept. 11-14
Many girls and adult volunteers join Girl Scouts in the fall. Registration nights are being hosted throughout the area during the week of September 11-14.
Founded in 1912, Girls Scouts of the USA is the premier leadership organization for girls.
Girl Scouts welcome any girl ages 5 to 17 as well as adults interested in the mission of building girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place.
A local Girl Scout registration event will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13 at Century School.
For more information, contact Stephanie Lippert at 252-1128.
A registration night will also be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11 at the Nevis School lunch room and small gym. For more details, contact Karrin Lindow at 652-4898.
In Menahga, registration will be held from 6:45 to 7:45 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14 at the Menahga Elementary School library. The contact person is Kim Kinnunen at 564-5241.
Girl Scouts has designed age-appropriate programs to meet girls' developmental, educational, emotional and social needs as they grow.
Girl Scout troops are small, self-governing groups with at least two registered girls and two adults. Individual troops set their own meeting schedule and locations. Troops typically meet for one to two hours twice a month.
Adult volunteers are encouraged to register and support their daughter's troop as an advisor, chaperone, driver, cookie parent or in other capacities. The Girl Scout Lakes and Pines Council offers free and low-cast adult development and training opportunities to help volunteers serve well as mentors and leaders.
Girls participate in a myriad of experiences through field trips, community service projects, cultural exchanges and environmental stewardships.
In the Park Rapids, Nevis, Menahga and Sebeka areas, there are over 100 active Girl Scouts, ranging from kindergarten through 12th grade. Throughout the year, they participate in girl-led activities - from helping at the local animal shelter to wilderness camping - with an emphasis on cooperative, hands-on learning.
