Plans for the Governor's Fishing Opener in May are moving toward launch, the cadre of organizers finalizing plans.

"This is our chance to tell our story to the world," Chamber director Katie Magozzi reminded GFO committee members of media arriving from around the state and beyond.

An estimated 200 radio, newspaper, television and Internet representatives are expected to descend on Park Rapids, searching for unique morsels to engage their audience's imaginations.

A GFO website has been established to promote the event. The site is set up to provide snippets of info on the critters and characters that inhabit this part of the earth.

Story "teasers" - to pique the imaginations of the media - are now being sought from Park Rapids area residents.

Short articles and photos on incidents unique to these north woods will be posted on the GFO site. The author's contact information will be included so if the tale tweaks a reporter's imagination, the person will be contacted for the full story.

Had a bear drop by for a visit? Have a grand fish story? Or a unique bit of history to share about Park Rapids? Had a cabin for generations? Set sail down the Mississippi?

While natives to this neck of the woods may consider this to be routine, metro dwellers fancy - and sometimes fear - our way of life.

Send stories and photos to jruzicka@parkrapidsenterprise or call the Enterprise at 732-3364 and ask for Jean.
