Crews were on the scene of a large gas leak in Park Rapids that shut down traffic outside of Wal-Mart.

The leak, on the corner of Henrietta and Hollinger streets, was reported by a cable crew trenching lines.

Cooperative Development of Bemidji struck the line shortly after 3:30 p.m.

Gas could been seen seeping out of the line and emergency crews responding were barricading streets and keeping traffic a safe distance away as vapors of gas poured into the air.

Wal-Mart was not affected, but employees of an adjacent business on Henrietta were asked to leave the area.

Enterprise employees reported the smell of gas around the time of the leak. The area is just behind the newspaper office.
