GARY SLOVER

Gary Norman Slover, 65, of Osage, died Thursday, March 27, 2014 at St. Joseph's Area Health Services in Park Rapids.

Gary was born Feb. 19, 1949 in Park Rapids, to Vernon and Carol (Peierson) Slover.

He was united in marriage to Barbara A. Westerlund at Calvary Lutheran Church in Park Rapids, Feb. 25, 1967.

In 1969, they moved to Brooks, where Gary worked at Arctic Cat as a welder. In 1974, Gary then began working for the Soo Line Railroad until he retired in 2009. After retirement, Gary and Barb moved back to the Osage area.

Gary was a generous man who was devoted to his family, especially his wife, sons, and granddaughters.

His belief in God and God's plan guided his life through difficult times. As an elder at the Community Church in Thief River Falls for many years, Gary was able to share his faith with friends and family. He also had a great love of nature and could always be found outdoors, whether it was hunting, collecting rocks, cutting wood, trapping, or basking in the light of a campfire.

Additionally, Gary was a member of the NRA and enjoyed going to auctions. He truly loved spending time with all his friends and family. He and Barb recently celebrated their 47th anniversary on Feb. 25th of this year.

He is survived by his wife, Barb Slover of Osage; sons, Tom Slover of Golden Valley, Jason (Michelle) Slover of Dubuque, Iowa and Jesse Slover of Osage; granddaughters, Megan and Molly Slover, and Hailey Slover; sister, Judy Keezer; brother, Danny Slover; sister-in-law, Verna Slover; his good friends, Bob, Kathy, and Michael; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Vernon and Carol (Peierson) Slover; and brothers, Floyd, Lloyd, Jerry, Ronnie, David, Marvin, Edward, and Edwin.

Funeral service: 11 a.m. Saturday, April 5 at Grace Community Church in Osage.

Visitation: one hour prior to the service at the church.
