Gary W. Lund, 55, of Ulen, died Friday, June 13, 2008, at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo, after a brief illness.
Gary Wayne Lund was born the son of Gordon Sr. and Hildur (Johnson) Lund on Nov. 12, 1952, in Moorhead. He was raised in Hitterdal with his family. Gary was baptized into his Lutheran faith at the Salem Lutheran Church, Hitterdal. As a child he attended the Hitterdal elementary school and later Ulen-Hitterdal High School, where he excelled in basketball. He graduated from high school with the class of 1972.
Shortly after graduating from high school, Gary married Beverly Hughes. They made their home in Hitterdal and Gary was employed by Sellin Construction, where he was a heavy equipment operator in road construction. In the mid 1970s, Gary became employed full time at American Crystal in Moorhead. He had continued his employment at American Crystal since that time, most recently as a Process Technician.
On April 9, 1998, Gary married Gayle Langseth in Moorhead. They had made their home west of Ulen since that time. In addition to working at American Crystal, Gary often raised cattle and more recently, he and Gayle had started a vineyard that will produce grapes for the first time this year.
Gary enjoyed spending time at Little Sugar Bush Lake, fishing, hunting and trapping. He was also a talented woodworker and had made a number of cedar chests for his family, along with many other wood projects. But most of all, Gary liked to spend time with his family.
Surviving Gary are his wife, Gayle Lund of Ulen; two daughters, Tammy (Ryan) Larson of Ulen and Tanya (Kiet) Nguyen of Hitterdal; one son, Trevor (Ashley) Lund of Lake Park; three stepsons, Brady (fiancé Kayla), Jake and Ben Fuglie, all of Ulen; two sisters, Karen (Ken) Nelson of Deadwood, S.D., and Debbie (Ron) Buss of Brooklyn Park, Minn.; one brother, Gordon "Sonny" (Louise) Lund, Jr. of Queen City, Texas; his father- and mother-in-law, Keith and Lorraine Langseth of Glyndon; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Joy and Wes Green of Ulen and Dan and Debbie Langseth of Glyndon; as well as eight grandchildren.
Preceding Gary in death were his parents and one brother, Clarence.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Monday, June 16, with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m., all at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Ulen.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 17, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, with the Rev. James Hulberg officiating. Pallbearers will be Mike Johnson, Mark Johnson, Bruce Johnson, Bob Larson, Donny Wisk and Jeff Olson, while honorary pallbearers will be all of Gary's co-workers. Interment will be in the West Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery, Ulen.
