Gapinski, Moore spark Panthers' win over Lakers
Jessica Gapinski's two goals and Bailey Moore's 26 saves helped the Park Rapids-Menahga-Walker-Hackensack-Akeley girls hockey team snap a nine-game winless streak with a 2-1 win at Detroit Lakes Tuesday night.
After a scoreless first period, Emily Payne scored to give Detroit Lakes a 1-0 lead.
Gapinski tied the game with a shorthanded goal at the 11:30 mark and followed with the game-winning goal at the 16:22 mark. Hannah Williams assisted on the game-winning goal.
Moore, who made 14 saves in the second period, stopped all seven Detroit Lakes shots in the third period to preserve the win. The Panthers tied Detroit Lakes 3-3 earlier this season.
The victory lifted Park Rapids to 2-7-2 on the season. Detroit Lakes, which went 0-for-5 on the power play, fell to 2-8-1.
"It really did feel great to get the win against DL in their building," said Park Rapids head coach Chris Albee. "Our girls really deserved that win after the past few games not ending up in our favor. I think we have been playing very well lately. Even with all the losses, we have been playing consistent hockey against some really good teams. When you keep that up, it's just a matter of time before a win has to come your way. I hope we can keep it up and put a few more in the win column."
The Panthers hosted W-DC/LPGE Thursday night and will host Lake of the Woods Tuesday at 5 p.m.
