Park Rapids Minnesota PO Box 111 56470

Park Rapids will be the site of a "Transforming the Classroom" presentation, the school board learned this week, reviewing the successes and possibilities technology holds.

Free and open to the public, the workshop will be held from 3:15 to 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22 in the Century School cafetorium. The event will address implementation of "digital learning programs that showcase technology tools and innovative teaching strategies."

"It's an opportunity to discuss the future of technology," superintendent Lance Bagstad told the board this week.

Educators, students, parents and community members are invited to the forum with topics ranging from expectations of students in respect to technology, how schools are using technology to change instructional practices to results being seen in the "transformed classrooms and programs."

How formative assessments can be a game changer in student achievement and the look of a transformed classroom will be addressed.

The workshop, principal Joleen DeLaHunt predicts, will be a conversation topic for parents.

In other action, the board:

n Approved a substitute teacher pay increase from $90 to $100 per day.

n Approved Kay Dent as a paraprofessional in the Early Childhood program.

n Approved the resignation of bus driver Barb Wilson.

Board Member Dennis Dodge questioned if there would be a replacement, Bagstad indicating she would not be replaced.

n Approved Joel Steffel as assistant girls basketball coach.
