Park Rapids will be under a winter weather advisory for freezing rain, rain and snow starting Monday morning.

"It's a very slow-moving system," said National Weather Service meteorologist Dan Riddle.

"The heaviest ice accumulation will be in the Red River Valley but you can expect some hazardous travel conditions by mid-morning Monday," he said.

Freezing rain Monday morning should turn to rainfall by Monday afternoon because of temperatures expected in the 30s.

"The afternoon trips will be much easier for school buses and people driving home," he said.

And he said that even though the majority of the system's moisture will be concentrated west of the Hubbard County region, it won't take much precipitation to "ice things over substantially."

Cold rain falling on cold ground will still make travel very dangerous, the NWS warns.

Precipitation will eventually turn to snow by Tuesday, Riddle said. The area could see an inch or more of new snow.
