Freezing rain, fog make travel conditions poor in Hubbard County

Ice and sand trucks are out on Hubbard County roadways, but slow travel, if you have to, is advised.

Many travelers have advised the Enterprise that road conditions are "awful."

Speed limits of 30 mph were the norm on most county highways early Thursday morning. Fog complicated visibility. Numerous accidents have been reported already with vehicles sliding off icy highways. A semi truck had overturned on Highway 71 north of Menahga, closing both lanes of traffic just after 6 a.m.

Here is the extended forecast for the Park Rapids region.

Today: Occasional snow, possibly mixed with freezing drizzle, becoming all snow after noon. Temperature falling to around 21 by 5pm. Blustery, with a east northeast wind 5 to 8 mph increasing to between 17 and 20 mph. Winds could gust as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Little or no ice accumulation expected. Total daytime snow accumulation of 3 to 7 inches possible.

Tonight: Snow. Low around 5. Blustery, with a north northeast wind be-tween 14 and 22 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible.

Friday: Snow, mainly after noon. High near 9. North northeast wind be-tween 13 and 18 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

Friday Night: Snow. Low around 2. Blustery, with a northeast wind between 10 and 20 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%.

New Year's Day: A 40 percent chance of snow. Cloudy, with a high near 6. North northwest wind be-tween 8 and 18 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Saturday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around -10.

Sunday: Partly sunny, with a high near 5.

Sunday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around -6.

Monday: A slight chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 12.
