Four Panthers receive all-conference honors as Perham retains title

Four Park Rapids gymnasts received all-conference honors as Park Rapids placed third at last Saturday's Mid-State Conference meet at the Area High School gym.

Kyja Penning and Emily Klingenberg received all-conference honors while Kirsten Erickson and Jessi Andersen earned all-conference honorable mention honors for their performances during Mid-State meets this season.

During Saturday's meet, the Panthers compiled 117.95 points to trail Perham's 152.175 points and Detroit Lakes' school record of 149.325 points. It was Perham's eighth conference title in a row. Frazee finished fourth with a 111.95. Perham (with a 151.933 average) and Detroit Lakes (with a 145.908 average) are rated No. 1 and No. 2 in the latest state Class A poll.

Penning had the Panthers' best showing by placing eighth on balance beam with an 8.65. Jessi Andersen's 7.90, Lauren Rossman's 6.80 and Kirsten Erickson's 6.50 led to a 29.85 team score in that event.

The Panthers' best event was vault where 8.30s by Penning and Andersen, an 8.10 by Cassie Baxter and a 7.80 by Ellen Hoffman led to a 32.50.

In floor exercise, Penning's 8.40, Andersen's 8.00, Erickson's 6.55 and Kayla Johnk's 6.20 led to a 29.15.

The Panthers received a 26.45 on uneven parallel bars behind Penning's 8.10, Andersen's 7.20, Baxter's 6.45 and Katherine Erickson's 4.70.

Penning finished 10th in all-around with a season high of 33.45. Andersen finished 12th with a 31.40.

Detroit Lakes' Amy Crawford won the all-around title with a 38.375 with winning marks of 9.75 on bars and 9.725 on beam. Perham's Kelsi Vomacka had top marks of 9.75 in floor and 9.70 in vault.

Perham will host the Section 8A meet next Saturday.

Lakers win dual meet

Kristi Hoppert (36.925), Crawford (36.625) and Natalie Hoffert (36.15) finished 1-2-3 in all-around to lead Detroit Lakes to a 145.50 to 117.40 win over the Panthers in the regular-season finale Tuesday night at the Area High School gym.

Penning finished fourth in all-around with a 33.15 while Andersen was sixth with a 28.95.

The Panthers tallied their second best team score of the season in vault with a 33.20 behind Penning's 8.55, Andersen's 8.40, Baxter's 8.15 and Hoffman's 8.10.

On beam, Penning's 7.90, Kirsten Erickson's 7.35, Andersen's 7.30 and Katherine Erickson's 6.35 led to a 28.90.

Park Rapids received a 28.25 in floor with Penning's 8.45, Andersen's 7.40, Kirsten Erickson's 6.55 and Katherine Erickson's 5.85.

On bars, Penning's 8.25, Klingenberg's 6.65, Baxter's 6.30 and Andersen's 5.85 led to a 27.05.

Leading the Panthers to a 97.05 in the junior varsity meet were Abbie Grossman (7.60), Katherine Erickson (7.60), Kaity Darchuk (7.50), Sam Harshman (7.40) and Sarena Kinkel (7.40) in vault; Kinkel (6.50), Hoffman (6.40), Kendra Anderson (6.20) and Harshman (6.10) on beam; Hoffman (6.80), Lauren Rossman (6.10), Harshman (5.90) and Anderson (5.80) in floor; and Kylee Roy (4.90), Tiffeny Hanson (4.30), Amy Klein (4.20) and Kinkel (3.75) on bars. Klein (21.60) and Hanson (19.90) competed in all-around.
