Former Menahga wrestling coach pleads guilty to incest
JAMESTOWN, N.D. -- According to a June 23 report in the Jamestown Sun, former Menahga wrestling coach Ronald Duane Holzworth pleaded guilty to incest, a Class C felony.
Holzworth was accused of engaging in sexual acts on multiple occasions with a person who was related to him, between Dec. 26, 2009, and Dec. 26, 2010.
Judge Thomas Merrick sentenced Holzworth to 18 months in the North Dakota Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
Holzworth was also sentenced to five years of supervised probation and to pay a $5,000 fine, $400 criminal administration fee, $100 defense/facility fee and $25 victim-witness fee.
Holzworth retired from Menahga in 2004 after being named teacher of the year.
Menahga teacher Carol Ann Cleveland, who was one of several teachers that nominated Holzworth as teacher of the year, said of him at the time, "Ron works with students to bring out the very best in them. Two of my three daughters were lucky enough to have him for their teacher."
Holzworth was a college wrestler at Valley City State University. After earning his degree, he taught elementary school in Cypress, Calif. Two years later, in 1971, he returned to Menahga, where he taught and coached alongside his brother Ray. Both brothers coached wrestling in Menahga for more than 20 years.
Holzworth was also a member of the Jaycees, taught gun training and led the Boy Scouts for two decades.
According to the North Dakota Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, Holzworth's expected release date is September 7, 2013.
