Flood insurance deadline nears
Park Rapids Minnesota PO Box 111 56470

The Hubbard County Sheriff's Office-Emergency Management provides the following information on the flooding to the local community.

The National Weather Service has stated with the very wet soil conditions, snowfall amounts above normal, current La Nina patterns, and an expected cool/wet spring to come, the NWS is expecting major spring flooding for many lakes and rivers.

Floods are the most common, most costly natural disaster in the U.S. Many people think because they do not live near water, they are not at risk for flooding. But, 20 to 25 percent of all flood claims are made in low-to-moderate risk areas. Everyone, regardless of whether your home is in a designated flood zone, is at risk for flooding.

Flood insurance policies go into effect 30 days after they have been purchased, so it is important for residents to buy their policies now, before the next flood.  To learn more about flood risk and insurance, and to get contact information for local agents who sell flood insurance, visit www.floodsmart.gov or call 1-800-427-2419, along with consulting with your current insurance agent.

Any questions or concerns place contact Hubbard County Sheriff's Office-Emergency Management at 218-732-3331.
