Five taken to hospital after head-on crash on Highway 371

Five people were taken to the hospital after a head-on crash Saturday on Highway 371, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

At 12:01 p.m., Samuel Shepard, 65, of Lebanon, Ind., pulled to the shoulder of the road to secure a life jacket in the boat he was pulling. That's when a vehicle driven by Marla Brown, 33, of Cass Lake, crossed over the centerline, through the opposite lane of traffic and struck Shepard's vehicle head-on, according to the State Patrol.

Everyone was taken to the hospital.

Shepard was not injured. His passenger, Sheila Shepherd, no age available, suffered non life-threatening injuries.

The conditions of another two passengers, Sally Shepard, 65, and 7-year-old Isabella Proctor, were not documented, according the the State Patrol.

Brown's condition was not documented, as well.
