Fischer's five 3s lead Rebels past Panthers

Abby Fischer hit five 3-pointers and scored 19 points in leading Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton to a 73-47 victory over the Park Rapids girls basketball team Monday night at the Area High School gym.

Fischer and Kim Brinkman hit 3-pointers as the Rebels jumped out to a 17-6 lead.

The Panthers responded with a 9-3 run as a 3-pointer by Hannah Wolff, two free throws by Sophie Shogren, a layup by Anna Grimes and two free throws by Alyssa Carlson closed the deficit to 20-15 with 6:25 to play in the first half.

Three-pointers by Brinkman and Morgan Mathison pushed D-G-F's lead to 33-18 at the 3:03 mark before baskets by Carson Lee Christenson and Wolff made it 33-22 with 1:42 left in the opening half.

After the Rebels claimed a 39-24 lead, Carlson's 3-pointer at the buzzer pulled the Panthers to within 39-27 at the half.

D-G-F regained control by opening the second half with a 13-4 run. Fischer hit two jumpers and a 3-pointer as the Rebels claimed a 52-31 lead with 12:22 to play. Christenson had two baskets for the Panthers during that stretch.

A jumper by Ashley Domino, a 3-pointer and layup by Wolff, a 3-pointer by Carlson and two free throws by Domino offset a pair of 3-pointers by Fischer as the Panthers trailed 60-43 with 8:15 remaining.

The Rebels sealed the win by making eight free throws down the stretch. A jumper by Christenson and a layup by Grimes were the only points for Park Rapids, which was outscored 13-4 in the final 8:15.

Wolff's 19 points, eight rebounds and three blocked shots led the Panthers, who fell to 0-7 against Section 8AA opponents. Carlson and Christenson combined for 16 points while Carlson and Domino had four rebounds each.

Abby Yliniemi (12) and Brinkman (10) also hit double figures as D-G-F improved to 3-4 against section foes.

D-G-F stayed in fifth place in the South half of the Section 8AA standings with an 11-6 record. Hawley (16-0), Pequot Lakes (15-4), Crosby-Ironton (12-5) and Perham (12-3) hold the top four spots in the section. Following D-G-F are Pelican Rapids (12-5), Frazee (5-13), Wadena-Deer Creek (4-12) and Park Rapids (1-15).

The Panthers, who played at Nevis Thursday night, host Walker-Hackensack-Akeley next Thursday night at 5:45 and host Staples-Motley in a Mid-State Conference game next Friday night at 7:15.
