Firing of former Roseau County Deputy upheld
An arbitrator has upheld Roseau County's decision to fire a former deputy sheriff.
Chad Maurstad was terminated Dec. 11, 2008 for various acts of misconduct including sexual harassment. He filed for a grievance and a hearing was conducted over a five-day period in May and June 2009.
Arbitrator Thomas Yaeger ruled Oct. 9 that Maurstad violated county policy by engaging in sexual harassment, conduct unbecoming an officer, making false accusations, being rude and overbearing to members of the public and insubordination.
"The incidents with three females amounted to serious misconduct, but even more serious was Maurstad's lack of truthfulness on several occasions in order to cover up what he obviously recognized as misconduct on his part," Yaeger stated.
Maurstad had been employed with the county for 15 years.
