Fire at Walsh Lumber takes out heating system
A fire Tuesday afternoon at Dick Walsh Forest Products damaged the company’s heating system but was extinguished in an houe.
Park Rapids Fire Chief Donn Hoffman said both his department and Menahga’s responded to the incident.
The fire, at Highway 71 and County 32, began in the boiler room. Hoffman said.
“Most of the fire was in a storage room adjacent to that,” he said. “It started in the attic and burned almost of the equipment stored in the storage room The boiler room itself and the wood chip pile and all that stuff is fine.
“Mostly tires, truck parts, stuff like that, but it’s their main source of heat,” Hoffman said.
The cause is under investigation. Eighteen firefighters from both departments responded.
