Fern Township dispute ties up officers for hours
A domestic incident Good Friday that required the presence of five officers in Fern Township sounded worse than it was.
That's according to Hubbard County Sheriff Cory Aukes. Here is his version of events on 129th Avenue northwest of Becida that transpired over the noon hour:
"What I learned is that the incident turned out to be a lot different than how it sounded as it was reported," he indicated in an e-mail Monday.
"The individual who came to the house making the threats was actually the owner of the house who was dealing with her tenants that she was evicting.
"The dog that was shot was actually a mean and aggressive dog. And its owner made no complaint over it getting shot. And the threat of burning down the house was made by the actual owner of the house. The gun was apparently brought for the sole purpose of shooting the dog. "Again, it did sound bad when the call came in which is why we responded with the numbers we did."
Three uniformed officers, an investigator and a task force officer were at the residence more than two hours April 6 mediating the call.
