Feeding the 500 (plus)
The serving line at Riverside United Methodist Church moved steadily for three hours Thursday. Here volunteer Ann Lindblom took her shift with the gravy ladle. The 29th annual Thank Meal served 200 delivery and take-out meals with 300+ coming to the church for a sit-down feast. The free-will event, after expenses are paid, serves as a community fundraiser, said organizer Spike Wellman. This year 35 turkeys were cooked along with a "mountain of mashed potatoes," he said. "It kind of runs itself but it takes a lot of people to do it," he said. Volunteers work all day Wednesday packing and performing the prep work. "It's a combined community effort," Wellman said.
