Federal omnibus bill includes funds for Main street

U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar announced Thursday that $730,500 for reconstruction efforts on Main Avenue in Park Rapids is included in the FY2010 Omnibus Appropriations bill.

"Infrastructure initiatives like the Main Avenue project in Park Rapids are critical to creating jobs, fueling local businesses, and providing safe and reliable transportation for Minnesota families," Klobuchar said in a press release.

The Main Avenue street and utility reconstruction project involves the rebuilding of Main Avenue and upgrading underground infrastructure utilities beneath the street.

The bill won final approval from the U.S. House of Representatives earlier this week.

"This bill includes funding for many important programs in Northeast Minnesota," said Congressman Jim Oberstar in a press release. "We will be creating new jobs, investing in law enforcement and public safety in our communities and funding important research programs. We will see returns on these investments for many years to come."

The Senate is expected to pass the FY2010 Omnibus Appropriations bill this weekend.
