Fargo man saved after falling through thin ice near Pelican Rapids
PELICAN RAPIDS, Minn. - A 20-year-old Fargo man fell through thin ice Friday evening near here and was rescued by the Pelican Rapids Fire Department.
Tyler Hansen was driving an ATV back to shore on Prairie Lake north of Pelican Rapids when he and the ATV he was riding broke through the ice.
After clinging to surrounding ice and yelling, a fishing partner saw Hansen and tried to help but could not due to the thin ice nearby. The partner called 911 and the Otter Tail County Sheriff's Office dispatched the Pelican Rapids Fire Department to the scene. The fire department rescued Hansen within 20 minutes of the 911 call.
Hansen was taken by ambulance to Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls. His condition was unavailable, but rescuers said he was alert at the scene.
