Fall or jump from roof of Fargo Civic Center lands man in hospital
A man described as being in his mid-20s is probably lucky to be alive after jumping or falling from the roof of the Fargo Civic Center, police said.
Sgt. Bill Ahlfeldt said the man probably fell 30 feet or so. An officer on duty reported the incident at 1:06 a.m.
"It appears as if someone had gotten to the top of the building. His friend was standing below," Ahlfeldt said. "And that individual jumped off the top of the Civic Center in the same vicinity that his friend was standing and hit the sidewalk, struck his head (and) was taken to MeritCare Hospital."
Ahlfeldt said he doesn't know how badly the man was hurt.
"When I was on scene, he was alert, talking. He wanted to get up and walk around. Obviously we did not let him do that," he said. "He did have a pretty good cut to his head, a pretty good gash on the top of his head, at the time."
Ahlfeldt said he doesn't believe it was a suicide attempt.
Alcohol may have been a factor in the incident, he said.
No names were available, and no information was released on whether charges would be filed.
