Emerson, Hepokoski capture Club titles at Blueberry Pines
Congratulations go out to Jim Emerson and Bev Hepokoski for winning the 2012 men's and women's Club Championships at Blueberry Pines last weekend.
Last Saturday was the first day of our 2012 Club Championship. Playing conditions were difficult due to the high winds on Saturday, but a couple of great scores were posted.
In the Men's Division, first-round men's medalist Jim Emerson carded rounds of 39 and 34 posting a 73. Ron Litzau posted the lowest first 9-hole score on Saturday with a 37 and finishing with a 38 for another great total of 75. Justin Day posted scores of 39 and 41 finishing Day 1 with an 80 to tie Andy Williams for third place. Andy Williams fired consistent rounds of 40 and 40.
In the Women's Division, the first round story was all Bev Hepokoski, building a first round lead of eight strokes over her nearest competitor after carding an 87. Tammy Hughes was Bev's nearest competitor after Day 1 carding a 95 and did put some heat on Bev during the second round of play on Sunday. Tammy rattled off five straight pars in the middle of the round to shave five strokes off Bev's lead and Tammy also shot the low round of the day on Sunday, an 89, falling just three strokes short. Bev Hepokoski held on to win her sixth Club Championship firing rounds of 87 and 94 for a 181 and sweeping both the Women's and the Senior Women's Low Gross Club Championship titles. Tammy Hughes held on to win the Women's Net Club Championship carding net rounds of 79 and 73 for a 152, plus won first place Low Gross in the Women's Division with scores of 95 and 89 for a 184.
In the Women's Senior Division, as mentioned above, Bev Hepokoski won the overall Club Championship. Sandy Porter defended her 2011 title as Senior Women's Net Club Champion firing net rounds of 77 and 76 for a 153. Connie Wadman finished in second place Net in Women's Senior Division scoring net rounds of 86 and 68 finishing with a 154.
The Men's Division was tight after 27 holes with both Jim Emerson and Ron Litzau tied going into the final nine holes of play. Both players traded the lead on holes 10, 11, 12 and 13 before Jim Emerson birdied the par-3 14th and parred the par-4 15th allowing him to pull away winning his second Men's Club Championship carding rounds of 73 and 77 for a 36-hole total of 150. Ron Litzau won his first Men's Net Club Championship scoring net rounds of 70 and 75 for a 145. Winning a three-way scorecard playoff for second place Low Gross was Andy Williams carding rounds of 80 and 92 for a 172. Second place Low Net in the Men's Division went to Larry Hertzog scoring a 79 on Day 1 and coming back with a 67 on Day 2 for a two-day total of 146.
The Senior Men's Division was the tightest competition of all finishing Day 1 with Gary Marjama and Jay Baarstad tied with rounds of 83. Gary Marjama held a one-stroke lead after 27 holes over Jay Baarstad when they began trading the lead back and forth until Jay Baarstad eventually defended his 2011 Senior Men's Club Championship title again this season scoring an 81 on Sunday for a 36-hole total of 164. Gary Marjama finished in second place Gross with rounds of 83 and 82 for a 165. The Senior Men's Net Club Championship title went to Terry Ristinen who jumped out to an early first-day lead carding a net 64 and finished with a net 70 for a total of 134. Second place Low Net went to Russ Weappa who had a big comeback on Day 2 after scoring a net 72 on Day 1 finishing with a net 65 to post a net 137.
