Elsie Mary Lindow, 97, of Nevis, died Friday, Nov. 15, 2013 at St. Joseph's Area Health Services in Park Rapids.
Elsie Mary McGrane was born to William and Gertrude (Liesenfeld) McGrane in Carsonville Township in Becker County, June 30, 1916.
She attended the Linnel Elementary School and graduated from Park Rapids High School and from Teachers Normal Training. She taught school in 1935 in Becker County for five years.
She married Thomas Lindow in 1937 and moved to Park Rapids until 1947 when they moved to Nevis Township where she raised her family.
In 1983, they moved to the village of Nevis, where she has lived since. She was a member of Our Lady of the Pines Catholic Church; St. Mary's Guild; a release time teacher for 20 years; and a member of MCCL. She loved being with her family, studying genealogy, flowers, bright colors and social programs.
She is survived by her nine children, Trudy (Richard) Cragg of Hastings, Connie (Larry) Rice of Park Rapids, Timothy (Jean) Lindow of Shevlin, John (Carol) Lindow of Nevis, Mary (Terry) Cain of Grand Rapids, Robert (Donna) Lindow of Nevis, Julie (Stan) Pidde of Blaine, Charles (Bonnie) Lindow of Coon Rapids and Celeste (Rob) Badger of Brainerd; 37 grandchildren; 63 great-grandchildren 10 great-great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, LaVonne Lindow of Nevis; sister, Allene Mueller of Perham; sister-in-law, Pat Johnson of Clearbrook; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Thomas; son, Terrence; granddaughter, Pamela Lindow; two brothers, John and Cecil; and a sister Irene.
Mass of Christian Burial: 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 22, at Our Lady of the Pines Catholic Church in Nevis. Father Anthony Fernando will officiate.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. with the Rosary at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21 at Our Lady of the Pines Catholic Church in Nevis, also one hour prior to the service on Friday.
Honorary casketbearers: her relatives and friends.
Active casketbearers: her four sons, Timothy, John, Robert, Charles; nephew, Fred McGrane; and grandson, Bucky Lindow.
Interment: Our Lady of the Pines Catholic Cemetery.
In place of flowers the family suggest to make donations to St. Jude's Hospital for children or Our Lady of the Pines sister parish in Haiti, or any children's charity of your choice.
