Elaine M. Mischke, 69, of Detroit Lakes, died Thursday, March 27, 2008 at the Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes.
Elaine Marie Hammje was born the daughter of Herman and Edna (Blom) Hammje on Aug. 6, 1938 in Newton Township, Otter Tail County. She grew up near Rush Lake, Minn., attending country school there and then attending school in New York Mills, graduating in 1957. She married Leslie Mischke on June 27, 1957 at Fort Ord in California, where Leslie was stationed with the military. They later lived in Seaside, Calif., for two years and then moved to Lake County, Ill. They retired in 1993 and moved to Detroit Lakes, where Elaine continued to live until her death. A woman of good humor, Elaine was an excellent baker and cook. She took special interest and joy in her flowers.
She will be dearly missed by her family and friends, including her husband, Leslie Mischke of Detroit Lakes; daughter, Elizabeth (David) Beauchamp of Grand Ledge, Mich.; sons, Douglas (friend Sharon) Mischke of Detroit Lakes and Greg (Lisa) Mischke of Palatine, Ill.; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and a brother, Allan Hammje of Bertha, Minn.
Preceding Elaine in death were her parents; a sister: Jean; an infant brother, Kenneth; as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation will be Monday from 5 to 7, with a prayer service at 7, p.m. in Karvonen Funeral Home, New York Mills, continuing for one hour prior to the start of funeral services at Apostolic Lutheran Church, New York Mills.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday April 1, 2008 at the Apostolic Lutheran Church in New York Mills, with the Rev. Don Salo officiating. The pallbearers will be Ron Jacobson, Larry Jacobson, Larry Hintsala, Gerald Blom, Marlin Hammje and Jack Leitch. Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in New York Mills.
